Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo has announced their partnership with the city’s most popular Sri Lankan cuisine restaurant, Kaema Sutra.
The restaurant, founded by celebrity chef, Dharshan Munidasa and internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandez, is Colombo’s most popular native cuisine restaurant, and will be moving to Shangri-La Hotel, as part of the six innovative restaurants and bars set to make the hotel a dining and social hotspot.
With this new partnership, Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo aims to fulfil its vision to serve the finest Sri Lankan cuisine in Colombo. Shangri-La Hotel Colombo Vice President and General Manager Timothy Wright states, “At Shangri-La, we are passionate about being deep-rooted in the culture of each country that we operate in.” He further elaborates, “Sri Lankan cuisine with its influences from a rich history spanning hundreds of years is much loved both by travellers to the island and of course, its own people.”
With this new restaurant, Kaema Sutra will feature a fine array of traditional and contemporary dishes. Age-old recipes and cooking techniques will be embraced in the Shangri-La kitchen in order to inspire today’s dining savvy, who consistently crave new memorable experiences as well as outstanding food. Moreover, the ambiance and overall hospitality of the restaurant will show evidence of innovation with a blend of contemporary design elements and a traditional Sri Lankan style bar, which will elevate mixology to a new level in the city with exceptional cocktails using exotic, local tropical fruits and spices.
Known for his devotion to only the finest ingredients and his dedication to following intricate preparation methods, Dharshan is sure to continue to exceed expectations with this restaurant. “For Kaema Sutra, our core belief has been to pay homage to the evolution of local cuisine. The islands aromatic spices and rich ingredients, traditional cooking techniques and many influences from its various regions and even colonisation, have pieced together a mosaic of cuisines like no other.” Whilst Dharshan is working on a menu that will include many new inspired dishes, his focus on Sri Lanka’s fine seafood will remain strong.
For Dharshan Munidasa, this is not the first time he has collaborated with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. His one-night-only, pop up restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel, at The Shard, London was a tremendous success, where he served his signature crab dishes and more.
As Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo sets out to create new luxury hospitality standards in the city, the partnership with Kaema Sutra will be yet another pursuit in their unearthing of the true charm of Sri-Lanka.
Located at One Galle Face along the Galle Face Green promenade, the most exclusive address in Colombo, Shangri-La Hotel will offer uninterrupted Indian Ocean views in most of its 500 guestrooms, suites and 41 serviced apartments. The hotel sits on 10 acres of land that will also soon accommodate an office tower, two residential buildings and a high-end shopping mall, bringing a new level of luxury to the thriving, metropolitan city of Colombo. The hotel is a 40-minute drive from the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport.
In addition to Kaema Sutra, the hotel will offer an uncompromising selection of local and international cuisine with its other restaurants, including Colombo’s most innovative and authentic Chinese Restaurant, a Western Grill, an interactive All Day Dining Restaurant and a Lobby Lounge. For those seeking serenity and the opportunity to unwind, CHI, The Spa will be a welcome addition with seven treatment rooms, a 24-hour fitness centre, and a swimming pool overlooking Galle Face Green and the Indian Ocean. The hotel will also feature the most extensive and versatile event spaces in Sri Lanka, including the Shangri-La Ballroom that can host 1,500 guests.
