Lulu Hypermarket Bahrain, the biggest regional hypermarket chain, has organised the ‘Lulu Food Festival’ under the theme ‘Food is Good’ over the weekends of August to September. Cuisines of a dozen countries have been showcased at the Food Festival, being the first-ever promotional event that involved many countries.
Sri Lanka’s rich culinary heritage was also honoured in a special ‘Sri Lankan Food Week’ titled ‘Taste of Sri Lanka’ from 10-12 September at Lulu Hypermarket at Dana Mall and Juffair Mall respectively.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka, had a daily live cooking demonstration by Sri Lankan Senior Sous Chef Samitha Pathmakumara of Gulf Hotel. Several signature dishes showcasing authentic Sri Lankan cuisine’s tropical influences were demonstrated, allowing visitors to experience the unique taste of Sri Lankan culinary art.
During ‘Taste of Sri Lanka,’ a wide spectrum of Sri Lankan products were also sold at very attractive prices at all Lulu Hypermarkets in Bahrain and customers had the chance to discover the rich food of Sri Lanka through tasting and sampling. The festival will end on 19 September with chefs serving up oriental delicacies from China, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan.
The Embassy facilitated Sri Lanka’s participation at ‘Lulu Food Week’ as a way forward in reviving trade and tourism promotion in the post COVID-19 situation.
