So here is yet another Valentine’s Day around the corner. It’s time again for the colour red to be draped across all windows of shops, for the bright hearts to come out and for boys to rush to the florist and order the flowers and rush to wear the goodies are to order some of the mouth watering confectionaries on display. And of course the much famous Valentine’s Day dinners must be attended to. For most, these are three things that go under the ‘must do this February’ list if two consider themselves a couple.

And if this reminds you that none of the above has been planned and that the day has slipped your mind, well then, Hilton Residencies might be able to help you with two of the three.  Under the theme of ‘all you need is love’ the hotel will offer three key promotions during the season for young or old love and even families.

“Be it a secluding romantic dinner for two at the pool side or maybe hide a way in a perfect alcove of love at the Union Bar and Grill this Valentines, Hilton Colombo Residence will indulge you and your loved one in style,” said Hilton Colombo Residence Asst. Manager of PR and MarCom Minoli Senanayake. The hotel has introduced a special valentine goodie range which is bound to make the couples fall in love all over again, Senanayake said. The chef has compiled eight special treats to be offered at the Pitstop.

The royal velvet, a delicious double chocolate layer cake coated with a thick chocolate marzipan is among them, one of the best. Soft, chocolaty and absolutely heavenly seems to sum up this cake to perfection. For those who love a little strawberry, there is the ‘valentino champenoise.’ Two other specials, white chocolate treasure and dark chocolate treasure are as good as it sounds and is one of the fast moving items, she said.

There is also a fudge sundae, valentino chocolate box, valentine cookie pack and a valentine cup cake range in the goodies list.

Settling down on a somewhat of a serious note, Senanayake expressed that the hotel hosts two special dinner options for the day. “If you favour a quiet moment on the scenic pool side located on level 03, indulge in a five course menu carefully selected by Executive Chef Priyal Wijesuriya priced at Rs. 9,000 Nett per couple.”

It is a delectable selection of vodka orange infused fresh salmon, gratinated seared scallops, crunchy greens and mustard crème glacèe, chili lemongrass oil as a starter, duo of watercress and pumpkin puree, chicken chorizo as a second course followed by passion fruit and mint cleanser. The main offering will comprise of crustaceans crusted sea bass fillet on artichoke and mushroom barigoule, sauternes foam or slow roasted lamb rump, herb crusted lamb rack, potato saffron risotto, asparagus and mint jus. The grand finale is the desserts: passion banana cream, raspberry jelly, chocolate pecan sponge cake with chocolate cream café.

“A complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and accompanied with Hilton Colombo Residence’s signature cocktail ‘Valentini and Valentino’ cocktails will be offered on arrival the extravagant five course menu dinner.”

The Union Bar and Grill will also host a romantic dinner buffet between 7p.m. to 11p.m. “Indulge in assorted seafood terrine, marinated olives, mixed seafood with avocado, waldorf salad, or delicious beetroot and orange feta salad,” Senanayake said. Be prepared to be snared in to perfectly exotic combinations of smoked chicken and pineapple honey mustard dressing, home made marinated salmon and condiments, fresh oyster bar and condiments.  The chefs at Hilton Colombo Residence have selected the perfect menu for the loved ones, she asserted.  There will be an elaborate spread of oven roasted lamb with creamy garlic jus, baby mullet with citrus salsa, slow cooked pork loin with balsamic jus, saffron and tri colour pepper rice, and chicken roasted with tomato chutney and mascarpone jus.

It does not stop there. One can feast on the tempura prawns, teppanyaki beef, vegetarian tofu kebab and chicken katsu. Each couple will also be offered a complimentary glass of sparkling wine and the signature cocktails on arrival.

“The day is about sharing the love; be it with a special someone or family. While the five course dinner is more for couples, we are more than happy to accommodate families for dinner buffet offered at the Union Bar and Grill. After all there are so many aspects to love,” said Senanayake.
