The Pamankada outlet of Barista Lavazza by 5 p.m. on a Saturday evening was buzzing with a crowd of music lovers, of which numbers seemed to increase by the minute. It was obvious that it wasn’t going to be your average quiet Saturday evening because the third session of Barista Lavazza’s newest Open Mic Night project was scheduled to kick start right about the time the sound technicians finished setting up.
The Barista Lavazza Open Mic Night is for anyone and everyone who has a passion for performing, whether it be comedians, guitar players, singers or even poets, Barista Lavazza welcomes them all. This time around, however, there were a few announcements about a couple of “rock stars” who were scheduled to be taking part, and needless to say that it didn’t deter anyone who didn’t have a professional career in music, from getting up on that platform and rocking their hearts out.
In between performances by TNL Onstage winners Steven Shera and Khazim Miskin from Hollow and Thushara Kulathunge from Karmic Sulphur, there was an increase in the number of newer faces and of course our regular favorites Raiza Saldin, Arnon “Ray” Pereira and Savindri Perera, who instantly grabbed the attention of everyone who turned up and never seemed to let go. Well, at least until they wrapped their performances up amidst deafening cheers and ovations from the crowd.
For everyone who missed out, have no fear! As Barista Lavazza have announced that they will be having Open Mic Night sessions every six weeks at rotated outlet locations across Colombo, giving young performers an opportunity to expose their talent in a supportive and positive environment. As usual, all are invited to come hangout and chill at Sri Lanka’s favorite coffee shop, Barista Lavazza!
