International restaurant giant Burger King has opened the doors of its newest outlet in Kandy’s trendiest spot, Kandy City Centre. Located on the 4th floor of the shopping complex, this outlet in the heart of the hill capital is Burger King’s fifth location since its launch in Sri Lanka last December under the Softlogic Restaurants portfolio. The franchise, which kick-started its entry into the market with an unprecedented three outlets in Colpetty, Mount Lavinia and Rajagiriya, also recently opened at Colombo’s latest landmark, Arcade Independence Square, Colombo 7. The arrival of the world’s renowned burger chain in Kandy promises to be a welcome treat for the city’s residents who have thus far had a very limited selection of international fast food restaurants to patronise. Diners can choose from a deliciously diverse menu featuring not only world-renowned products such as the Whopper – Burger King’s legendary flame grilled burger, and the iconic Hershey’s Sundae Pie, but also uniquely Sri Lankan items that have been created especially to suit the local palate. All these are very reasonably priced with desserts starting at just Rs. 40, burgers at Rs. 290 and sides such as Onion Rings starting from Rs. 100. The recently introduced local favourite ‘King Rice’ is priced as low as Rs. 280. Launched in recent months, these localised menu items include the fiery, fantastically crunchy Spicy Chicken Burger, the fragrant King Rice with its crispy chicken, aromatic gravy and salad, and the traditionally English Fish N’ Chips, a firm favourite of seafood-loving Sri Lankans. Burger King has also added a wide range of beverages to their line-up with premium LavAzza coffees, delectably rich hot chocolate, original Frosty Boy Australia milkshakes in Raspberry, Vanilla, and Chocolate and another Sri Lankan favourite, Iced Milo. Burger King has enjoyed tremendous success in the short time since its launch by franchisee Softlogic Restaurants, backed by the powerhouse that is Softlogic Holdings, one of the top diversified conglomerates in the country that employs over 6,000 people at its offices located in Sri Lanka, Singapore and Australia. Softlogic continues to strengthen its presence in the key growth sectors of Retail, Healthcare, ICT, Automobiles, Travel & Leisure and Finance and Insurance, boasting authorised distributorships for some of the top brands in the world.
