Chinese New Year starts with the new moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day is called the Lantern Festival where people celebrate in the night with colourful lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.
Hilton Colombo’s authentic restaurant Emperor’s Wok will celebrate the Chinese New Year, which is the Year of the Dragon, on a smaller scale from 22 to 27 January during lunch and dinner. Chef Hok Leung and his team have compiled this menu especially for the occasion.
The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. In order to “catch up” with the solar calendar, the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years. This is the same as adding an extra day on leap year.
Emperor’s Wok famous for its authenticity of food is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Colombo. “The Dim Sum all you can eat is always a crowd puller,” said the hotel’s Marketing Communications Manager Gigi De Silva. “You won’t be disappointed with the Chinese New Year menu.”
