Chariot, the name that’s synonymous with scrumptious short-eats, fiery Sri Lankan dishes and delicious sweets, which underwent a major re-launch recently, is ready open its doors at two outlets to serve customers in Dehiwela and Kirulapone.
Currently, Chariot food is available at their brand new outlet in Bambalapitya, while short-eats, snacks and cakes are sold at the popular Chariot counter at the Odel store. Chariot restaurants also cater at Orion, Empire and Trillium residencies.
Food lovers in Dehiwela who have been patronising Chariot for years, will be happy to know that their favourite restaurant is now back in business. The dishes that used to be synonymous with the Chariot Restaurant in Dehiwela, which included Jaffna specialties such as red hot crab curry, thick prawn curry, milk hoppers and pittu, will continue to occupy an important place in the extensive menu available at the refurbished outlet as well.
The newly outfitted state-of-the-art kitchen at Dehiwela is designed to handle most of Chariot’s catering services in addition to serving dine in and takeaway customers at the outlet. Chariot restaurants undertake catering for corporate events and private functions that range from large and small gatherings to kiddies parties.
Chariot’s old favourites like iced coffee, their English chicken pie made according a British recipe and special gateaux are now better than ever and are available at the Odel store. Their new additions in the short-eats and snacks category extend to ambarella juice, and the much talked about signature Chariot bun.
The menus available at all Chariot dine-in outlets, takeaway outlets and catering services are devised and personally supervised by Chef Kumar, a culinary genius who counts over two decades of creating both eastern and western cuisine. He has worked for many years in the USA, Dubai, Algeria and Sri Lanka.
Since Chariot restaurants are best known for their value-for-money range of Jaffna food, it is only fitting that their new logo should reflect the vibrancy and energy of this colourful northern town. Even the style and look of the chariot element within the logo is inspired by Jaffna.
The Chariot chain of restaurants’ new management is headed by young entrepreneur Shehan Gomez. Commenting on the ‘new look’ that the outlets sport, he said, “We want our restaurants to retain their old welcoming warmth while infusing them with a touch of streamlined modernity and convenience.”
He went on to explain the rationale for their new logo. “It symbolises our passion and commitment to our business,” he said proudly. “Driven by our youthful spirit we’ve created a new vision and mission for this well known chain of restaurants underlining our goal to offer discerning customers great food at affordable prices,” he added.
Gomez is ably assisted by Operations Manager Rajindra Fernando, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, having worked for many years at Waters Edge. “Our team is fired by the dynamic leadership of Shehan Gomez,” he said. “Plans are underway to open an outlet in Panadura and six more key locations in the next two years.”
Jeevana Fernando, who is a professional marketing personality, is also an integral part of the new management team at Chariot restaurants. “We have our work cut out for us,” he said. “We are ready to make our mark in the restaurant sector and we’re up for the challenges ahead.”
