Does sushi make you happy? Well then here’s something for foodie friends who love to cook – indulge in a delicious day out at Taprobana Wadduwa, and learn the art of Japanese cuisine from maestro Chef Chaminda Rohan and dine on a feast of your own making after. It’s the perfect opportunity to gather the gang and head out of the city for some precious beach time and also learn the ropes of this ever-so-popular food.

Japanese cuisine is an art form – if taught in the right way, it’s really pretty simple too. That’s what Chef Chaminda figured out when he first developed his passion for this cuisine whilst in Japan.

Cutting techniques of fish for the right taste and texture to retain freshness, the art of rolling sushi, preparing sushi rice and the proper utensils to use are some of the things guests will learn at this culinary class. And oh, what better setting to learn with friends than at the restaurant Salt that opens out to the pool and ocean beyond. The resort has taken care to handpick the favourites for this lesson – tuna nigiri, tuna maki roll, prawn and avocado nigiri and the seafood salad roll are some of the items. Of course they’ve included the much celebrated California roll which as its name suggests finds its origin far away from Japan, but is today a must-indulge-in.

Everyone will feel like quite the champ for the hard work done as you feast on a lunch of your own making. The resorts even selected a complimentary beverage to wash down all the yummies. Eating out of the way, sit back in the lounge and watch palm trees swaying ahead.

Maybe you want to impress the pretty lady in your life or be fanciful when you next entertain … maybe you just want another excuse to chill out of town … either way, you’ll find this day out most memorable. Sharpening culinary skills has never been more fun!

The Japanese culinary classes at Taprobana Wadduwa are on from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and you get to choose whether you prefer to come on a Saturday or a Sunday. Each class accommodates only 10 persons so you can chat with Chef Chaminda on all the things you what to know about Japanese cuisine. All this is priced at Rs. 4,000 nett per person including lunch and the selected beverage. You can reach Taprobana Wadduwaon 038 2283000 – 5 to make your booking in advance. So get calling your besties and the resort will plan the rest with you!
