  • Cafe introduces tantalizing Italian rice and pasta menu and breakfast range

The aromas floating around the cafe by the Nuga tree smell decidedly foreign in flavour. The cheery young Baristas in the cafe says that the new Italian menu that D’Cafe has introduced is sure to be a real winner. The small cafe on Cambridge Place is secluded from the busy world around it and seems to be the ideal place to drop in for a dish of steaming Italian rice on a rainy Colombo day.

In operation now for a few months, the cafe has primarily been serving out a selection of fresh salads and sandwiches along with its extensive beverage menu. Now, the smiling Chef Bala informs us, a new menu of Italian rice and pasta dishes have been introduced, as well as a new range of juicy sandwiches, hotdogs and burgers and a scrumptious new breakfast menu.Chef Bala

While the cafe serves tried and tested Italian favourites like garlic and olive oil speciality Penne Aglio Olio and Nasi Goreng, the house specials the chef has whipped up are something to look out for. There’s the D’s Con Pollo, a fragrant Italian rice dish liberally touched with herbs and mixed in with chicken and shrimp, a sure-fire lunch order. Sea food fans will love the Kumbuk Calamari, a filling rice and calamari dish. Then there’s the ultra-packed D’s Friendly Burger (D’F Burger) for anyone who thinks big enough for the enormously juicy burger stuffed with bell pepper, lettuce, tomato, sauces and the meat of your choice. The breakfast menu is interesting and minimalistic, with the English breakfast as its main feature. A few novel appetizers have been introduced as well, with the cafe joining the very short list of restaurants in town serving nachos!

The expanded menu at D’Cafe is richly complemented by its home-baked desserts, their fantastically creamy and delightful chocolate biscuit pudding heading the show. Guests and Baristas alike say that a meal from the cafe is simply not complete without a taste of the decadent chocolate biscuit pudding or brownies on display.

Overall, the new additions are good dine-in and take-away options, and are sure to attract families as well as the corporate crowd constantly seeking novel lunch hour options.
