Delicious Diwali sweets at Taj Samudra

Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. The festival itself extends over five jubilant and celebrative days. It is marked by lines of lamps, fireworks and the exchange of sweets and gifts that all lend to the grandeur of this occasion. Diwali festival is one of the most auspicious and grand occasions which is celebrated with great zeal and warmth among all races and religions. In India, Diwali represents a time when streetscapes are adorned with small, decorated earthenware oil lamps called diyas. Mythology has it that the lamps are lit to help the goddess of wealth and prosperity Lakshmi find her way into people’s homes. Every home – lowly or mighty, the hut of the poor or the mansion of the rich – shines with the glow of twinkling diyas or candles to welcome Lakshmi. Regardless of the mythological explanation, what the festival of lights stands for a reaffirmation of hope and a renewed commitment to friendship, goodwill and prosperity for all, in its true essence it is a celebration of the joys of life. An array of delicious Diwali Indian sweets are on offer from 21 to 23 October at Pebbles at Taj Samudra, Colombo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The medium sweet hamper will comprise of cashew nut roll, milk burfi, almond katli and chocolate burfi while the large sweet hamper will comprise of motichoor laddu, milk roll, besan burfi, Mysore pak, chocolate burfi, almond katli, sandesh and cashew nut roll.
