Hilton Colombo Residence launched its firth Vietnamese food promotion festival last Monday at the hotel’s flagship restaurant, the Union Bar & Grill. Themed ‘Discover Saigon’s Treasures,’ the promotion will conclude tomorrow night.
Showcasing the culinary wonders of Vietnam, a wide array of dishes are on offer at the restaurant made under the careful scrutiny of culinary wizards Chef Vu Nhan Hien and Chef Nguyen Truong Luat who have been flown down from the Equatorial Hotel in Hoh Chi Minh City especially for the event.
The extensive menu prepared by the two chefs has been tweaked to complement the local palette while keeping the core tastes and textures of the dishes as they are made in Vietnam.
Listed under the appetizers is a range of delectables which includes pineapple salad, mini rice flour cake, and fresh spring roll with stir-fried beef to glass noodle with seafood salad. A sour fish soup and crab meat soup are also available for guests.
Among the mains are grilled eggplant with minced pork, grilled beef with sesame, stir fried squid with lemongrass and chilli, stir fried prawn with tamarind sauce, fried rice with garlic and crabmeat, stuffed squid with minced pork and tomato sauce and stewed pork spare ribs with carrot and white bean.
The restaurant also has action stations dishing out deep fried sweet potato with taro and prawn fritters and Vietnamese pancakes. The tempting desserts include Vietnamese specials such as deep fried banana cake, chilled longan with lotus seed and baked cassava cake alongside the standard almond pudding, chocolate mousse etc.
