Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights commemorating the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance, will be celebrated at the Taj Samudra South Lawn on 9 November.
A spectacular display of fireworks, a lavish festive dinner of authentic Indian extravagance in the backdrop of the latest Bollywood music spun by a DJ awaits those who wish to celebrate the festival with fun, food, laughter and entertainment.
The Diwali festival originally extends over five jubilant and celebrative days. It is marked by lines of lamps, fireworks and the exchange of sweets and gifts which lends to the grandeur of the occasion.
In India, Diwali represents a time when streetscapes are adorned with small, decorated earthenware oil lamps called diyas. Mythology has it that the lamps are lit to help the goddess of wealth and prosperity ‘Lakshmi’ find her way into people’s homes.
Every home, lowly or mighty shines with the glow of twinkling diyas or candles to welcome Lakshmi. Regardless of the mythological explanation, the festival of lights stands for a reaffirmation of hope and a renewed commitment to friendship, goodwill and prosperity for all.
