Galle Face Hotel partners with French Embassy for ‘Taste of/Good France 2017’

The iconic Galle Face Hotel is all set to partner with the Embassy of France for a celebration of French cuisine. The event, in the form of a dinner, is being held for the third consecutive year, as always on the first day of spring, 21 March. The dinner will pay tribute to the culinary traditions of France, which values high-quality, innovative, and environmentally responsible cuisine. More than 2,000 chefs on five continents will simultaneously gather in celebration of French cuisine and its rich contributions to the culinary world.

The 1864 at The Galle Face Hotel is proud to be named as one such establishment. “Our 2017 Good France dinner at The 1864 celebrates the pleasure of contemporary French gastronomy, based around the philosophy of using fresh seasonal produce at the peak of its season, handled simply with respect to capture and heighten the essence of each product, executed with solid classical French technique,” said Chef Adam Gaunt-Evans who spearheads all culinary efforts at the property. “To this degree, we have chosen to celebrate the terroir of Sri Lanka, from line caught yellow fin tuna ‘niçoise’, to local free range chicken with peas a la Française and pineapple tart tatin with black pepper and cinnamon ice cream,” he added.

Participating restaurants are invited to create their menu according to the following sequence: A traditional French aperitif, a cold starter, a hot starter, fish or shellfish, meat or poultry, a French cheese (or cheeseboard), a dessert, and French wines and digestifs, while remaining free to highlight their own culinary traditions and cultures.
