High tea at the Verandah at GFH

An evening of fun, laughter and chit-chat is always great when you are with friends enjoying a cup of coffee or getting a bite of some sandwiches or éclairs but then it’s always a better treat when you treat them to an evening of high tea that keeps you away from the kitchen as well.

That’s why the high tea at the Verandah of the Heritage Galle Face Hotel is an ideal choice for you to bring in friends and family for a get together, birthday surprise or just time out to get that home stress away. Overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Verandah restaurant brings in a scenic view of the way of the sky changes its colour along with the slow setting of the sun as it makes room for nightfall.

With over 44 varieties of dishes available, what more can you wish for. Some of the delectable delights on the menu include, starting from the cold corner, filled egg boats with cheese and cocktail sauce, and cold meat hash on brown bread with pesto, mustard and pickled vegetables. If in the mood for a sandwich, then you can choose between roast or smoked beef with mustard, chicken mayonnaise, egg, cheese, tomato, cucumber or sardines with green chilli, coconut sambol and cream cheese, or seeni sambol, on either white or brown bread.

Heading on to the hot pots, we got chicken sausage rolls, fish puffs, mushrooms thermidor in tartlet shells, seafood vol-au-vents, mini quiche Lorraine, vegetable cutlets, sautéed chicken on garlic toast with cheese, Jalapeño cheese croquets or potato cheese croquettes with tartar sauce, chicken kievs, seafood burgers with dips of tomato sauce and chilli sauce.

There are also wraps such as chappathis and pita pockets with fillings of tomato, cucumber, onion and devilled chicken. If you are not a greens person, then there is a selection of seafood pizza with tomato and basil with peppers and cocktail sausages on skewers with BBQ sauce.

Want to go Italian? Then try some of the pasta with mushroom cream sauce, green curry pesto and spicy oriental.

None of the above dishes would be complete if you don’t head on to the sweet corner and try some of the many cakes on offer such as chocolate cake, ribbon cake, sticky date cake with cashew nuts and of course assorted cookies, scones (butter, cream, strawberry jam, cream, marmalade).

In the mood to get something straight off the pan, head on to the waffles station where you get waffles with a choice of raspberry/cinnamon custard or orange topping, as well as pancakes with coconut and treacle.

You can also satisfy your sweet tooth on large crepes with chocolate or berry topping, assorted mousse, fruit salad, passion fruit in syrup, raspberry cream cheese layer, fried choux pastry, cream buns, chocolate éclairs, wild berry soup, marshmallows, fruit in white wine jelly, and of course, the sago pudding.

All this for a price of just Rs. 1,350 nett per person is a deal you can’t find anywhere else. The high tea buffet is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
