No matter where you are in the world a steaming cup of traditionally brewed Ceylon tea is reminiscent of everything that is home. The opportunity to enjoy the cuppa accompanied by freshly made pastries and hors d’oeuvres, surrounded by picturesque settings is an experience words alone cannot describe. So why not experience it for yourself, as the favourite suburban hotel on the outskirts of Colombo re-opens its pioneering drive-through Bakery at the Edge and its very own signature Tea Lounge at the Edge.

“We are thrilled to have a renowned brand like Dilmah partnering with us on this new venture. The expertise of Dilmah teas together with the culinary proficiency of Waters Edge, can only bring about the very best of both worlds,” said Waters Edge General Manager Rohan Fernandopulle.untitled-6

At a special ceremony held recently the Bakery and Tea Lounge was declared open by Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, Waters Edge Chairman Chamath de Silva, the Board of Directors, Director Sales and Marketing Nirekshe Perera and the Hospitality Team.

Speaking at the opening ceremony Director Sales and Marketing Nirekshe Perera noted, “Waters Edge strives to be an epicentre of innovative, consistent and quality cuisine. From our authentic Japanese Ginza restaurant to the signature Italian restaurant Pranzo and the Bavarian Garden German restaurant which was opened recently, Waters Edge offers dishes that are unique and novel. The latest addition today pays tribute to an iconic Sri Lankan symbol, our world-class Ceylon Tea.”

The award-winning culinary team at Waters Edge led by Executive Chef Buddhika has put together an extensive menu which is perfectly paired with the exclusive range of teas that will be served at the lounge. Some of the items on the menu also use tea as an essential ingredient in the preparation. For instance the salads, bruschettas, wraps, burgers and toasties, spicy crêpes and waffles will all have a hint of tea added on to the recipes. For dessert the lounge will also dish out specially prepared green tea ice-cream, Earl Grey macaroons, and a tea twist on the traditional tiramisu, Ice-tea Sundae (a choice of ice-cream with tea topping and salted caramel popcorn), cakes and sweet waffles among many others.

The lounge will feature Dilmah’s Exceptional range which includes delicious teas and infusions. The range offers handpicked teas and herbal infusions which are selected for their quality, fragrance and character. Gourmet Ceylon black and green teas, as well as herbal infusions are available in deliciously different combinations. All are exceptional, forming together a contemporary and indulgent selection that fuse the 5,000 year history of tea and herbs with 21st century taste and style. 19 of the finest teas from the Dilmah Exceptional Range will be featured on the menu, along with freshly brewed tea shakes, tea mocktails, iced teas and tea cocktails.
