The world of food has never been more open than it has now, being popularised by media through programmes such as MasterChef, or through celebrity personalities such as Gordon Ramsey and Heston Blumenthal.

This October, Sri Lanka and Jetwing Lagoon are proud to present a chef known as the spice queen – Chef Devagi Sanmugam, who will cook up a storm, Singaporean style, at Jetwing Lagoon.

In the industry for over 30 years, Devagi brings her own flair to cooking and has created recipes that have made her one of Singapore’s most popular chefs. An accomplished authority on the local food scene, she is constantly involved in developing and testing original recipes and formulas for food companies, hotels and restaurants in Singapore and overseas.

Her approach when developing innovative menus and food offerings is to focus on creating food with integrity, food with honesty and food that is tempting forever. She believes food made from scratch and cooked to order sets the foundation of excellence in a restaurant’s food culture.

Being a culinary personality is only a part of her charm, however, as she believes in spreading her knowledge and experience to others. Over the years, Devagi has conducted cooking and training workshops for chefs and novices in Singapore, United States, Australia, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, Malaysia, India, and Europe, Papua New Guinea and most recently in the United Arab Emirates.

She also happens to be an author, with over 15 cookbooks under her belt, covering a variety of recipes, as well as being a culinary consultant for other cookbooks.

In the country to be a part of the renowned World Spice Festival, Devagi’s talents will be on display at Jetwing Lagoon on 12 October – showcasing dishes such as chili crabs, Malabar saffron bisque and pineapple jalebi amongst others.

Backed up the hotel’s star class chefs, Devagi aims to bring to the table a culinary experience like no other. The dinner will be held at Geoffrey’s, the intimate and casual restaurant overlooking the peaceful waters of the Negombo lagoon.

“At Jetwing Lagoon, the concept of food is not just for refreshment. There should be flavour, presentation, aroma… everything that makes the simple act of eating a pleasure!” said Wester Felthman, General Manager of Jetwing Lagoon. “Chef Devagi is sure to impress and her many years of experience and knowledge fit in well with our outlook. Be sure to be at Geoffrey’s on 12 October, and taste it for yourself!” he continued.
