  • Lion Brewery wins Monde Grand Gold for fourth year running
The Sun, Surf and Sand.., the world’s best hospitality, champions at cricket, and then… there’s the beer! Sri Lanka’s oldest and premier brewer, the Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC, poured yet another round of success bagging Grand Gold awards at the most prestigious Monde Selection Awards 2013 for the fourth year running. Lion Stout, which was once endorsed by the late international beer connoisseur, Michael Jackson, as ‘one of the most respected beers in the world’ won Monde’s coveted Grand Gold award for the fourth year running, whilst the brand Strong also bagged a Grand Gold for the second consecutive year. The ever-popular Lion Lager took home a Monde Gold. Founded in 1961 by the International Institute for Quality Selection in Brussels, the Monde Selection is considered the foremost accolade for quality selections amongst consumer products the world over, with close to 4,000 products tested from various categories and countries. The products are reviewed by a panel of 70 judges; a globally-acclaimed totally independent and professional jury. With a heritage stretching back to Sir Samuel Bakers cottage brewery said to be started in 1854, Lion Brewery (then Ceylon Brewery) is Sri Lanka’s oldest brewer. Lion Brewery first participated at the Monde Selection in 1966 where it won Silver and a Bronze. Over the years Lion Stout has won 11 gold medals, Strong Beer six gold medals and Lion Lager six medals in all. Lion Brewery is considered one of the most successful participants in the program, competing against some of the most reputed brewers and biggest beer brands from all over the world. In Total Lion has won 16 Gold awards and 10 Grand Gold awards. This is also the fourth consecutive year that all three Lion brews won prizes at the prestigious selection.
