As the brand says, ‘Without the love, it’s just coffee’; a true endorsement! What began in 1993, a single coffee shop in Topeka, Kansas and an intense passion for coffee – PT’s Coffee was born.
PT’s Coffee Roasting Company is committed to working with coffee farmers from South America, to South Africa and other coffee growing countries who are true artisans of coffee cultivation and practice their craft with dedication, skill and passion. They work with and offer their support to these farmers for the sole purpose of presenting their customers only the highest quality grade of coffee.
PT’s Coffee buys and roasts 100% Arabica beans. Caturra, Bourbon, Typica, Pacas, Pacamara, SL-28 and SL-34 and Geisha being the eight most common Arabica varietals are purchased and roasted. They also import Arabica from 10 to 15 countries and typically have 20 offerings including blends and single origin coffee. 78% of coffee coming in is through direct trade. The offering changes due to direct trade production of this above high end coffee.
“This is important because local competitors’ blends may not be able to compete with this standard of coffee bean.”
22 years later, PT’s Coffee boasts three distinctive flavours: Flying Monkey Espresso, 1861 and John Brown House Blends, all of which comes with an interesting story behind it!
Flying Monkey Espresso was conjured out of experimentation and curiosity. It is a striking blend with versatility, incredibly adaptable and can be enjoyed in almost every setting and or circumstances; a pleasing aroma and absolutely the best in a cappuccino.
This blend is rated as extremely balanced, yet playful, featuring notes of smooth chocolate, honey and graham cracker resulting in a beautiful harmony of flavours while still maintaining enough depth to show off in long dairy drinks. Flying Monkey is a combination of: a Brazil Natural, a Brazil Pulped Natural, a Guatemala, and a Sumatra. They are all roasted individually and blended post-roast. This allows PT’s to roast all four beans to different roast levels that bring out the best qualities of each origin. The subtle acidity comes from the Guatemalan, grown at over 1,800 metres, roasted light-medium. The Brazilian beans add the backbone – the deep milk chocolate and nougat base. These are roasted medium to medium-dark. The Brazil Natural adds a honey aftertaste to Flying Monkey.
This comes from the ‘Natural’ processing of the bean, where the washed cherries are dried with the pulp still on the bean. The Sumatra is roasted the darkest and provides the deep cocoa and graham cracker depth.
1861 House Blend is an approachable and well-rounded drip coffee. This B-Ville Coffee-House Blend has been renamed 1861 as a homage to the year the state of Kansas was born. Like a vintage house wine, here is a blend that would please any palette and perfect for that all day coffee rush! 1861 features a bittersweet chocolate aroma with a round body, a hint of caramel and a tangerine sweetness. Also boasts of roasted almonds and a chocolate finish.
A medium-roast blend composed of beans from Brazil and El Salvador. The lower-grown Brazil is a softer bean that brings out the chocolate and nutty flavours. The El Salvador bean is higher grown and adds a citrus brightness and mellow acidity to the blend. This is an excellent, all-day everyday coffee; 100% direct trade blend. PT’s personally visits these farms every year during harvest season to ensure quality and advise on processing and sustainability efforts.
John Brown House Blend – referred to as PT’s surly activist blend is a polished coffee with a bold heart, rich character, resembling sweet pipe tobacco and dark chocolate! Again, with a bittersweet soft finish. Two different roasts make up this blend, making it a unique member of PT’s line of blends.
A cup of John Brown features a deep chocolate aroma with a velvety body complemented by a juicy acidity, syrupy black cherry sweetness and a pleasant finish of sweet tobacco! John Brown is a truly unique and worldly blend; composed of beans from Sumatra, Ethiopia, and Colombia – all grown above 1,700 metres. The Ethiopian is roasted light and adds the black cherry and red currant acidity to the blend. The Colombian is roasted medium and adds the baker’s chocolate and velvety mouth feel. The Sumatran is roasted dark and adds the sweet pipe tobacco and boldness.
All these and more in various mixes and shakes will be available throughout the operational hours of The Barnesbury. Freshly roasted and ground coffee will be available for sale in perfectly sealed packs from the US sealing in its freshness in totality. Sri Lanka has been identified as the first distributor in South East Asia where The Barnesbury is the sole distributor.
Delicious cakes, waffles with various toppings are like matches made in heaven enjoyed with a cuppa of PT’s Coffee. An ideal adrenalin rush for the morning, an all-day pick-me-up or an after lunch or dinner cannot get better – for ‘Without the love, it’s just Coffee!’
