The Coast: Redefining ocean cuisine

Located on the picturesque and trendy coastline at the end of Wasala Road in Dehiwala, The Coast is the latest beach restaurant which redefines the concept of ‘ocean cuisine’.

Situated amid swaying mangroves and framed by the sprawling golden, sandy beaches of Dehiwala, The Coast overlooks the vast waters of the beautiful Indian Ocean where distant fishing boats blend with the horizon, lulled by the refreshing breezes from the sea.

The Coast is conceptualised by its co-proprietors Chethika Karunaratne and Narendhra Seelanatha, who say,

“We’ve conceived this as a one-of-a-kind ocean restaurant which offers its clientele the right doses of an unmatchable ambiance and palate-pampering ocean cuisine.”

The Coast offers a variety of dining options from slow, lazy brunches and multi-cuisine, scrumptious lunches, to indulgence at tea and bewitching, gourmet dinners in an unmatched blend of gastronomy and ambience.

“A unique feature is the fresh seafood caught daily by the local Dehiwala fisher folk, which we serve to our patrons. In fact classic dishes redesigned with a contemporary edge, created using quality ingredients, are the focus of our seasonal menu,” say the duo.

“Dehiwala and neighbouring Wellawatte present a vibrant customer base with a mixed, social blend of both Sri Lankans and foreign nationals. These are people who don’t want to waste time stuck in traffic but would rather dine a few minutes away from home, or pick up an affordable take-away.

Catering to this too, The Coast offers a fine range of Chinese, Italian and Sri Lankan cuisine at very reasonable prices and is already enjoying a rapidly growing clientele,” Seelanatha said.

Being a mere 50 nautical miles south of the Colombo harbour, diners at The Coast enjoy a picturesque view of the lighthouse, the distant lights flickering in the Colombo Port, the approaching ships, and the city’s fast changing skyline.

The Coast’s natural surroundings have been seamlessly blended into the overall dining experience… from its wide open spaces overlooking the sea, to its ‘private mangroves’ which form just the perfect option for a romantic rendezvous with absolute privacy.

“We’ve positioned The Coast as a multi-purpose venue and not just confined it to the boundaries of a traditional beach restaurant. It is undoubtedly the perfect location for weddings, birthdays and anniversary parties with the backdrop of stunning sunsets on the Indian Ocean.

Add to this, beach parties, corporate events, cocktails, launches, fashion shoots, commercial shoots, and our repertoire is complete,” Karunaratne added.

Dining in Dehiwala, and on the beach, will henceforth be an experience with a tangible difference, as The Coast opens its doors with the promise of delectable gourmet cuisine in an ambience like no other.
