The Palmyrah Restaurant, reputed for its impeccable traditional Sri Lankan cuisine was recently re-launched after a full renovation and upgrade of facilities. Located at the Renuka City Hotel, the Palmyrah is best known for its wide selection of Sri Lankan dishes and authentic Jaffna specialties. As a part of its re-launch, the Palmyrah announced the introduction of a Lunchtime Special, offering 25% off on food for bills over Rs. 2,500 when you dine in.

The brainchild of the late Alfred Leo Thambiayah, previous Chairman of Renuka Hotels Ltd, the Palmyrah restaurant opened in November of 1972, showcasing the extraordinary food of the north and other regions of Sri Lanka. The preparations of the Jaffna dishes meticulously follow Thambiayah’s ancestral recipes from Kayts, Jaffna, leaving an indelible mark of authenticity.

Since its inception, the Palmyrah has gained a reputation for being the recommended location for tourists seeking authentic local cuisine and a favourite amongst Sri Lankans. The restaurant’s reputation for delivering a genuine Sri Lankan culinary experience has delighted countless generations of diners and left an undeniable impression.

Focusing on the creation of an elegant and modern dining space with influences from traditional Sri Lankan culture, the new interiors are calming and neutral; the ideal atmosphere to enjoy Palmyrah trademark Milk Hoppers, Mutton Poriyal, Jaffna Crab Curry, Fried Fish Pittu and Odiyal Kool among a host of other dishes. It is advisable to save some space for dessert, as the Wattalappan or Jaggery Hoppers will satisfy any sweet tooth.  The Palmyrah restaurant has been recognised by Trip Advisor; receiving the coveted Certificates of Excellence in 2013 and 2015. This is no surprise, as while many restaurants offer traditional rice and curry, foodies agree that none quite compare to the Palmyrah. The restaurant offers a wide selection of curries that can be mixed and matched based on the customer’s preferences to create the perfect meal.

Alfred Thambiayah’s vision has been a success from the start and has borne fruit for 42 years. The restaurant has enhanced its offering, combining sophisticated gastronomy, excellent traditional favourites and efficient service to ensure that each diner truly enjoys every single morsel.

The Palmyrah lunch offer is available daily until 30 June. The restaurant is open from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. for lunch. A prior reservation is recommended and can be made on +94 112 573598. For those looking to savour a wide range of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine this is an opportunity not to be missed.
