The sushi chefs at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo are rolling out platters of sushi during the month of March. The Sushi Bar, tucked away in a cosy corner of the hotel’s Lounge, is one of the few places in Colombo to turn out premium quality sushi and sashimi.

Guests are welcome to observe the technique involved in its preparation over the bar, often giving them an added appreciation for the food. Perched on a barstool at the Sushi Bar, guests are treated to a view of the hotel’s crystal blue swimming pool and the Beira Lake beyond.

Three platters of assorted sushi will be on offer. The first comprises two pieces each of salmon sushi, tuna sushi, crab sticks, tuna maki and avocado maki as well as a prawn, cuttlefish and mullet sushi, all for Rs. 900++++. Four pieces each of tuna and mullet sashimi, two pieces each of salmon and tuna sushi and a piece of prawn, mullet and cuttlefish sushi make up the second platter for Rs. 1,200++++. The third platter priced at Rs. 1,400+++ consists of four pieces each of tuna sashimi and salmon sashimi, two pieces each of salmon and tuna sushi, and prawn, cuttlefish and mullet sashimi.

Raw fish and rice, the primary ingredients in Japanese cuisine, are naturally low in fat and high in protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals making sushi a popular choice amongst the health conscious. Fats found in seafood are predominately unsaturated and thus contain relatively high levels of Omega-3. Since sushi is often served raw, no cooking fat is introduced during its preparation. The result – a guilt free indulgence!

The seafood and vegetables used at the Sushi Bar also contain vitamins and minerals. For example, shrimp is high in calcium and iodine, whereas salmon is rich in Vitamin D.  The gari and nori used to make sushi are rich in both nutrients. Whether consumed as a snack or a meal, a visit to the Sushi Bar will do as much good for one’s body as it does one’s tastebuds. The Sushi Bar is open from 12 noon until 10 p.m. daily and is contactable on 2491956.
