A remembrance service of eleven minutes via the popular eplatform Zoom was held yesterday to mark the 11 years since the end of the armed conflict in Sri Lanka.

Organised by a group of patriots, the online event saw participants joining with a lamp in hand and the remembrance service was held in all three languages of Sinhala, Tamil and English.  The participants also took part in a minute of silence in respect of all those who suffered and died in the 26 years of the armed conflict and those who are suffering in the aftermath with the focus being not to differentiate between ‘us’ versus ‘them’.

Both parties of the conflict were identified to have suffered and continue to suffer. The online remembrance service intended to bridge the gap of one party celebrating victory and the other suffering continuously. It brought a sense of understanding and solidarity for those who have suffered across all communities of Sri Lanka.
