1H workers remittances up 75% to $ 2.8 b

Workers remittances in the first half of this year have increased by 75.3% to $ 2.8 billion with inflow in June showing similar growth year-on-year.

The Central Bank said workers remittances in June amounted to $ 476 million, as against $ 274 million a year ago.

CBSL also said based on provisional data, total departures for foreign employment during January to June 2023 and departures in June 2023 amounted to 146,437 and 24,087, respectively. Departure levels in the first half of 2023 were broadly similar to that in 2022. Annual departures for 2022 was around 311,056.
