2011 to be mini election year

The Government has decided to dissolve Local Government bodies on 10 January with elections slated to be called prior to March.

The decision was made at a special UPFA meeting held at the Temple Trees yesterday chaired by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The meeting was attended by all constituent party leaders of the government, a reliable source of the Government said.

Speculation was rife that polls to elect members to Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabas will be held on 30 March.
