Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting yesterday approved the 21st Amendment to the Constitution Bill. The proposal to this effect was submitted by the Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe.
The draft Bill was finalised after several rounds of discussions with different political parties before going to cabinet.
The Bill is expected to be published in the gazette shortly. Thereafter it will be tabled in Parliament.
“After several rounds of discussions with all parties, the final draft of the 21st amendment to Sri Lanka’s constitution received cabinet approval and is expected to be tabled in Parliament after being gazetted,” Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Twitter soon after the Cabinet meeting.
