300,000 kg of vegetables gone to waste: Karu

Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday said that 300,000 kg of fresh vegetables have perished in farms and collection centres, noting that authorities have neglected proper mechanisms to avert such situations.

Via a tweet Jayasuriya said: “Yesterday, 30 lakh Kg fresh vegetables have perished in farms and collection centres. Under Disaster Management Act, Sri Lanka has a proper mechanism to be used in situations such as these. Subverting the systems may work in the short run but disastrous in the long term.”
