Tests conducted on four people with suspected symptoms of the coronavirus infection have come back negative, the Government said.

The National Medical Research Institute said the tests have confirmed the four people tested for suspected symptoms of coronavirus were not infected by it.

Four individuals, including a Sri Lankan medical student who had returned from Wuhan, and two Chinese tourists and a Chinese child with suspected symptoms of coronavirus, have been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH).

Specialist Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases has said that there is no reported case of coronavirus in Sri Lanka so far.

Out of the four admitted to the IDH, the child has been discharged and left the hospital as medical tests were negative for the coronavirus infection, Dr. Wijewickrama said.

According to Specialist Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, there is no need yet to be alarmed about regarding a coronavirus outbreak in the country.
