64 new MPs elected to 9th Parliament

  • Of the new Parliamentarians, 3 are women, voted in from Kegalle, Ratnapura and Gampaha

Sixty-four new Members of Parliament (MP) have been elected to the Legislature.

Of these, 53 of the new MPs were elected from the SLPP while four were elected from the SJB. Other new MPs have been elected from ITAK, SLMC and several smaller parties.

Among the new entrants to Parliament, some have topped the preferential votes in several districts; these include Nalaka Godahewa (SLPP – Gampaha) and Nipuna Ranawaka (SLPP – Matara).

At 26 years, Jeevan Thondman is the youngest of the newly-elected MPs.

Only three out of the 64 new MPs are women. They are Rajika Wickremasinghe (SLPP – Kegalle), Priyangani de Zoysa (SLPP – Ratnapura) and Kokila Harshini Gunawardena (SLPP – Gampaha).
