The Speaker’s office yesterday categorically denied media reports that claimed Rs. 30 million would be spent on the first session of Parliament after it was prorogued.

In a statement, the Speaker’s office clarified that the Parliament session on May 8 would be a standard Parliamentary Sitting day and that no additional costs would be borne by Parliament.

The special military parade would not be funded by Parliament.

In addition, the Speaker’s office rejected claims that Parliament would be renovated at a cost of Rs. 1 billion. Officials clarified that Rs. 200 million had been allocated for 2018 to carry out much-needed renovations and repairs that had not been done in Parliament the past 30 years.
