9 district hospitals to be brought under Health Ministry purview

The Government has decided to bring nine district hospitals currently administered by the Provincial Councils under the purview of Health Ministry for further upgrade.

They are Matale, Nawalapitiya, Embilipitiya, Avissawella, Gampaha, Mannar, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu.

The move, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers this week, is in line with the Government plans to upgrade these hospitals to provide facilities such as medical treatment, theatres and laboratories on par with the Sri Lanka National Hospital. 

The Health Ministry will enhance quality of service supply, equality and efficiency as well as easy performance of administrative activities of the nine district hospitals.
