AG seeks yet another Trial-at-Bar against bond scam accused

  • It will be third Trial-at-Bar relating to 2015-2016 bond auctions
  • Former Minister Karunanayake among those facing charges

Attorney General Dappula De Livera yesterday requested Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuirya to appoint another Trial-at-Bar for the Bond Scam involving the third bond auction of 31 March 2016, to try former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Former Governor Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran, Arjun Aloysius and seven others.

The request from the AG comes less than a week after the AG sought the appointment of a Trial-at-Bar to hear the case pertaining to the bond auction of 29 March 2016.

One Trial-at-Bar has already been appointed to hear the case against the accused pertaining to the bond action of 16 February 2015.

The accused, including Karunanayake, face charges including criminal misappropriation, market manipulation, cheating and insider trading in relation to two bond auctions held in February and March 2016.

They face charges under the Penal Code, Offences against Public Property Act and the Registered Stock and Securities Ordinance.
