AG sends back 40 files pertaining to Easter Sunday attacks to Police

  • Tells Acting IGP that investigation files are incomplete; lack enough material to pursue legal action
  • Insists if files are returned without comprehensive investigations, they will be sent back once again

 

The Attorney General’s Department has returned 40 incomplete investigations files pertaining to the suspects arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attacks to the Police. Coordinating Officer to the AG Nishara Jayaratne said the files were returned with a letter to the Acting IGP Chandana Wickramaratne from AG Duppula De Livera PC, advising the former to get the investigations completed comprehensively before returning the files.  

Jayaratne noted that files sent to the AG pertaining to the Easter day attacks did not contain sufficient material to pursue legal action. She added that the AG has said that if the files are returned without the investigations fully completed, they would be sent back once again to the Police department.
