President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held talks for the second consecutive day yesterday with the visiting delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Following up on Thursday’s discussion, the two parties discussed the way forward and measures to overcome delays pertaining to the third review.

“Our goal is to meet the targets set under the IMF program while being mindful of the pressure on the public and exploring alternative approaches that can alleviate the burden on the people,” President Dissanayake said. A constructive and cooperative environment was successfully established during these talks, which concluded yesterday.

At Thursday’s meeting with the IMF delegation President Dissanayake expressed his Government’s intention to provide relief for people while broadly agreeing with the objectives of the IMF program.

The IMF’s Asia Pacific Department Director Krishna Srinivasan, Senior Mission Chief Dr. Peter Breuer, along with other senior IMF representatives and the Sri Lankan delegation attended the discussions.
