President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the Sri Lankan Government is not concerned with Adani Group’s dealings with other nations. He added that the leadership is focussed only on what the conglomerate does in Sri Lanka, reported the Economic Times (ET) yesterday.
“We do not have any concerns over how they (Adani) work with other countries. What is important for us is how they work with us,” Dissanayake told ET.
Dissanayake stated that his “stable Government” wants to focus on more Indian investments and that the Government will be looking at how “they (Adani) have worked in our country.”
“If they have worked in a manner that suits us and fits our initiatives, we do not mind working with the Adani Group,” said the President as per the ET report.
Adani’s relations with Bangladesh have strained of late. It was reported that Bangladesh wants to sharply lower prices under the deal with Adani Power, unless it is cancelled by a court that has called for an investigation into the 24-year deal.
Adani said it has no indication that the Bangladesh Government is reviewing a power purchase agreement, according to Reuters.
Adani has been supplying power under a 25-year contract, signed in 2017 under ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, from a $ 2-billion power plant in Jharkhand that has two units, each with a capacity of about 800 megawatts.
Bangladesh has halved the power it buys from Adani Power, citing lower winter demand, Government officials told Reuters, amid disagreements over dues running into hundreds of millions of dollars.
Adani Group Founder Gautam Adani is already facing allegations by US authorities that he was part of a $ 265 million bribery scheme in India – charges he has denied.
