In a heartfelt message shared on social media, President-elect Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the National People’s Power (NPP) expressed deep gratitude and a renewed sense of hope for Sri Lanka’s future following his victory in the Presidential election. “The dream we have nurtured for centuries is finally coming true,” Dissanayake declared.

He credited the collective effort of “hundreds of thousands” of supporters, emphasising that this achievement was not his alone but belonged to the people of Sri Lanka. “Your commitment has brought us this far, and for that, I am deeply grateful. This victory belongs to all of us.”

Dissanayake paid tribute to the sacrifices made by countless persons who had supported the movement, acknowledging the hardships they endured along the way.

“Our journey here has been paved by the sacrifices of so many who gave their sweat, tears, and even their lives for this cause,” he said, assuring that their sacrifices would not be forgotten. “We hold the sceptre of their hopes and struggles, knowing the responsibility it carries.” The message also struck a note of unity and inclusivity. Dissanayake highlighted the importance of building a future based on solidarity between all Sri Lankans, regardless of ethnicity or background.

“The unity of Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, and all Sri Lankans is the bedrock of this new beginning,” he said, positioning the nation’s diversity as the foundation for the “New Renaissance” his Government seeks to lead.

He called on everyone to join hands in order to share Sri Lanka’s future together. Meanwhile Dissanayake also said a future Government under his leadership will be a people friendly Government. He made this comment in response to a question posed by the media outside the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) headquarters yesterday.
