Adjourned debate on Commission Report on Easter attacks to continue next week

• House to meet for 4 days next week

Parliament will meet for four days next week with the adjourned debate on the Report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday Attacks scheduled for 25 and 26 March.

Sittings will commence on Tuesday (23) where a resolution under Section 10 of the Customs Ordinance on import duties, two regulations imposed by the Minister of Finance under the Imports and Exports Act and an order under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act will be taken up for debate.

On 24 March two regulations under the Motor Traffic Act will be taken up for debate followed by the adjourned debate on the Report on the Easter Day Attacks on 25 and 26 March.

At the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena held this week, attention was drawn to debating the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimisation and the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the incidents of fraud and misappropriations which have allegedly taken place at public institutions from 14 January 2015 to 31 December 2018. Dates for these debates will be scheduled later.

Chief Government Whip and Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando, Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Amaraweera and Prasanna Ranatunga, Members of Parliament Gayantha Karunatilake, Anura Kumara Dissanayake M. A. Sumanthiran and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka (who is not a Member of the Committee) were also present at the meeting.
