Denies rumours, says tour guide a freelancer

Aitken Spence PLC yesterday categorically denied rumours of a lockdown and stated business is continuing as usual.

Issuing a statement on its website yesterday, the Management pointed out that the confirmed COVID-19 Sri Lankan patient is not an employee of Aitken Spence, and that the building has not been on a lockdown as per the rumours.

“Sri Lanka has identified one confirmed COVID-19 Sri Lankan patient, who is a chauffeur guide providing services”. “This person is now rumoured to be an employee of Aitken Spence and that the building has been on lockdown. This information is false,” the statement said.

It further noted that this chauffeur guide is not an employee of Aitken Spence. “He is a freelance Italian-speaking chauffeur guide. Aitken Spence is not on a lockdown and business is continuing as usual.”

The Management of the company also said that all of their employees have been educated on the required precautions to be taken and all relevant precautionary control measures were already in place at Aitken Spence Towers.

“We will work proactively with the Ministry of Health, the Epidemiology Unit and other relevant authorities to follow standard procedures,” the statement said.

Aitken Spence PLC Management called on the general public to abstain from sharing false information. “Please refrain from sharing unchecked information as it will cause more damage. We encourage you to check the sources of information before information is passed on to avoid unnecessary panic.”
