Akbarally ‘next gen’ figure in EDB webinar on sport of biz today

The next generation of family-owned conglomerate Akbar Brothers will figure in an Export Development Board (EDB) organised webinar today titled ‘The Sport of Business’.

The webinar via insights from Hussain Akbarally and Shiraz Akbarally, both Executive Directors of Akbar Brothers, aims to share lessons from the world of sports that can be applied to organisations, especially export firms. 

Akbar Brothers is Sri Lanka’s largest exporter of Ceylon Tea to the international market and is one of the country’s largest conglomerates, with interests in power, pharmaceuticals, import trading, property management, manufacturing, hospitality, agriculture, and environmental control.

Hussain Akbarally has spearheaded the Group’s ventures into the avenues of energy and hospitality, as well as manages the company’s private equity investments. He holds a degree in Science from the University of Melbourne, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Shiraz Akbarall is currently pursuing his MBA at INSEAD business school in France. Shiraz’s focus was based primarily in manufacturing operations for the group’s core business of Tea Export, paying attention to automation and modernisation. 

In addition, he was responsible for the Group’s interests in Innovation, Printing and Pharmaceuticals. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Melbourne. In his free time, Shiraz enjoys eating, reading about new technologies, and playing squash or golf.
