The agreement was reached following a meeting held with Investment Promotion Sate Minister Dilum Amunugama, Board of Investment Director-General Renuka Weerakone Obadani Apparels Company Managing Director Kalfan Al Obadani and company management representative Yasir Lahir along with several other senior officials from the BOI.

The State Minister apologised on behalf of both the Government and the people for the inconvenience that a foreign investor had to endure.

Noting that Obadani Apparels are being exported by air, Amunugama said they consider relocating the factory to provide the necessary facilities closer to Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, from its current location in Katana.

He also disclosed that this incident was not an isolated incident and the company had faced such situations for the past eight years of its operations in Sri Lanka.

Amunugama claimed that as per initial investigations, authorities have found that an official of the BOI is also involved in the alleged incident and internal investigations have already begun.

The State Minister assured that following the completion of the internal investigation, the case will be handed over to the CID.
