Leader of the Ceylon Worker's Congress (CWC) Arumugam Thondaman (56) passed away last night after succumbing to injuries from a fall at his residence.
Thondaman, who first entered Parliament in 2000, has served both in the UNP and the UPFA as a Minister. He was to contest the General Election this year, and had handed in nominations to contest from the SLPP from the Nuwara Eliya district.
Hours before his demise, Thondaman had met with the new Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay, and discussed bilateral cooperation for community development, including the ongoing Indian Housing Project in the plantation sector.
He is the grandson of CWC founder Savumiamoorthy Thondaman.
