Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday declared open the Bandaranaike International Airport’s (BIA) new emigration terminal, which had been revamped with an investment of Rs. 430 million.
The new facility is part of the overall terminal development work, which also consists of 23 emigration counters to ease overcrowding and delays for passengers at the airport. With the expanded emigration facility, the revamp of BIA Terminal 1 is now complete.
The completion of the entire project aims to transform BIA into a sophisticated airport in the region, whilst catering services to 20 million passengers annually by 2025. Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, Aviation State Minister D.V. Chanaka, Airport Services (Lanka) Ltd. Chairman Major General (Retd.) G.A. Chandrasiri, and AASL Vice President Rajeeva Sooriyaarachchi also participated at the event.
