Boost in the offing for local printers

  • Media Minister says move will restrict foreign exchange outflow
  • Currently such documents printed by foreign companies

Cabinet has decided to assign the National Planning Department the task of conducting a detailed evaluation of a proposal by Minister of Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella to entrust the printing of passports and other confidential State documents to the Government Printing Department.

The Minister informed the Cabinet that passports and other Government documents are currently being printed by foreign printing companies, and printing them at the Government Press will restrict foreign exchange outflow in the country.

The Minister presented a proposal to purchase the necessary machinery for this purpose.

The Cabinet of Ministers considered the proposal and decided to assign the Planning Department to conduct a detailed evaluation of the project.
