Frontline workers in health, security, airport and tourism sectors will receive a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine starting 1 November, the Government yesterday announced.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be administered as the booster shot.
The PMD added that vaccination of all eligible children will be completed within two weeks. “The President also instructed to expedite the vaccination process and complete vaccination of all personnel who are eligible as soon as possible,” the PMD stated.
The decisions were made when the Special Committee on COVID-19 Control met yesterday.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 151,960 persons were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Thursday.
This includes 3,969 persons who received the first dose of Sinopharm and 59,428 persons who received the second dose of Sinopharm. In total, the first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 11,857,261 persons and the second dose has been administered to 10,201,085 persons.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,575 persons, of which 1,376,408 persons have received the second dose as well. On Thursday, 5,834 persons received the second dose of AstraZeneca.
On Thursday, 75,763 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 786 persons received the second dose of Pfizer. In total, the first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 569,770 persons and the second dose has been administered to 430,369 persons.
The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 803,098 persons and 769,082 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. The Epidemiology Unit states that 6,180 persons received the second dose of Moderna on Thursday.
A total of 159,096 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,592 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
A first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 14,868,800 persons and the second dose has been administered to 12,932,536 persons.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 88.5% of the country’s over-20 population has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
