Budget 2022 proposes Act on Rights of Differently-Abled

The Government’s Budget for 2022 presented yesterday proposed to introduce an Act on Rights of the Differently-Abled, ensuring equal living and growth opportunities.

The proposed Act is also in line with Article 12 of the Constitution of the country which spells out that all citizens are equal.

Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa in his Budget speech acknowledged there was a considerable number of differently-abled persons in 

Sri Lanka.

“They should also have access to equal opportunities, equal privileges and equal responsibilities in the society. I further propose to launch a program for the development of their entrepreneurship and skills,” Basil told Parliament.

He also proposed to introduce an inclusive program to address the issues on children and mental health development, having identified the basic issues faced.
