Coinciding with the reduced fuel prices, bus fares have been reduced by 12.9%, whilst also reducing three-wheel fares by Rs. 20 per kilometre with effect from yesterday.
Acting Minister of Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna yesterday said the minimum bus fare will reduce from Rs. 34 to Rs. 30 from last night in line with fuel price reduction.
He said the fares of luxury and expressway buses will also be reduced.
The All-Ceylon Three-Wheeler Owners’ Association President Sudil Jayaruk also said they have decided to reduce three-wheeler fares by Rs. 20 per kilometre following the petrol price reduction announced yesterday.
He said three-wheeler operators across the country have been advised to reduce the fare for a kilometre to Rs. 80 from the second kilometre from last night.
Jayaruk also called on the Government to intervene and impose a mechanism for three-wheel charging fares disregarding the new fee and causing hardships for the passengers.
