CAA issues new directive for manufacturers, importers, distributors

The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued a new directive to all importers, producers, and traders via an Extraordinary Gazette notification effective 28 July. 

As per the Gazette notification, all importers, producers, manufacturers, distributors, online vendors, and traders will be required to display the maximum retail price (MRP), weight or volume, date of manufacture, and date of packing (re-packing of products), date of expiry, and the batch number they intend to sell or distribute.

The manufacturers, vendors, and distributors should also have their names, registered addresses, and contact details of the manufacturers. If the goods were imported, the packaging should include the name of the country of origin, name of the company, address, and contact number or website of the issuer or importer.

Such information must be legibly printed or contained in non-removable labelled in a conspicuous place. 

CAA Chairman Shantha Niriella by the powers vested in him by Section 10(1)(a) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 09 of 2003 issued the new Gazette 2286/26 dates on 29 June.
