The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has written to Chief Executive Officers of Licensed Finance Companies and Specialised Leasing Companies, directing them to continue their operations uninterrupted.
“The CBSL requires the services of Licensed Finance Companies and Specialised Leasing Companies, alongside Licensed Commercial Banks, in discharging critical financial operations without any disruption, which have been declared as an essential service by the Government at this juncture of COVID-19 pandemic,” CBSL informed these institutions.
The Non-Bank Financial Institutions were advised to use the letter signed by CBSL Deputy Governor H.A. Karunaratne and Director Supervision of Non-Bank Financial Institutions J.P. Gamlath along with their official IDs for travel during curfew to attend to time-critical financial institution-related operations.
On Thursday the Government declared the Central Bank, commercial banks, the Treasury and insurance companies as essential services.
Secretary to the President Dr. P. B. Jayasundera in a letter to Central Bank Governor Prof. W.D. Lakshman instructed that the monetary institution ensured it operated during curfew hours.
However, the public is requested to only visit these institutions for urgent matters.
