The Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal on Friday said even before the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced their to-do-list, the banking regulator had recommended similar and better proposals to the Government on a number occasions.

“Going to the IMF means, seeking their advice. We have also done it on different intervals,” he said in response to questions raised by journalists post-Monetary Policy Review meeting on Friday.

He also pointed out that there are various views from economic experts, ex-Central Bankers and the Central, but a final call should be taken by the Monetary Board.

“A final decision on seeking IMF assistance or not will be taken by the Monetary Board after considering all the views of experts, whilst also looking at current and future economic conditions and goals,” Nivard said.
