Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga |
Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga marked her 79th birthday on Sunday with a poignant reflection shared on Facebook.
In a heartfelt post, she expressed deep gratitude and introspection. She reflected on her substantial contributions to Sri Lanka and the irony of forgetting some actions while being moved by memories cherished by others.
“There are many things I have done and said for my country, for its people, and for their betterment throughout my life. I may have forgotten many of them. If I have indeed forgotten some, it is ironic to think that the people of the country remember them,” she reflected.
Kumaratunga also expressed her deep appreciation for the global outpouring of affection and support. “Even if I don’t recall everything I did and said, there remains a common thread that many people remember: the genuine love in my heart for this country and its people. It fills me with immense pride,” she said.
She expressed a heartfelt thanks, attributing her resilience and determination to the unwavering love and encouragement of her supporters: “It was your love that empowered me to fulfil my duties for the country, despite enduring decades of criticisms and slander.” the former President said.
