Health authorities yesterday confirmed the deaths of four COVID-19-positive persons, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 199.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 72-year-old individual from Batticaloa passed away yesterday while receiving treatment at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital. He died of COVID pneumonia and meningitis.
A 70-year-old resident of Colombo-10 passed away on 29 December and the cause of death is cited as acute liver infection and shock from blood poisoning associated with COVID-19. The individual was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka after testing positive for COVID-19.
A 50-year-old individual from Kolonnawa also passed away on 29 December. He too was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka after testing positive for COVID-19. The cause of death is cited as acute kidney infection with COVID-19 and heart disease associated with high blood pressure.
Health authorities also stated that a 66-year-old resident of Colombo-15 passed away on 29 December while being admitted to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. He died of COVID pneumonia and acute diabetes.
